Yes!

AI tools are being added to some academic research products such as databases and discovery interfaces like Summon. As KPU library becomes aware of these developments, we will be assessing them before making them available to our users. In some cases, we have chosen NOT to turn on specific tools.

As we evaluate these new features, we consider such things as data privacy, accuracy of results, bias, over-reliance of AI, and intellectual property. You can read our position statement over on the library's Generative Artificial Intelligence guide

Currently, there are 2 library databases that have had generative AI tools added to their search functions. Use the links below to explore details about how the features work.

Note that in both cases, users must select to use the optional AI tool in their searching; they do not run automatically.

1. EBSCO AI Insights

  • Essentially an article summarizing tool which provides 3-5 key points of an article for users to assess its relevance
  • Only available on some databases, and only for those articles where the publisher has granted permission

2. Statista Research AI

  • Provides written responses to natural language searching, using Statista's own content
  • Includes citations for information included in response

Remember that you still need to work within the guidelines set by your instructor, and if you use one of these tools, you will need to acknowledge doing so in your assignment.

See our FAQ linked below for how to cite AI generated content or acknowledge your use of a tool.
